Hi, I'm Karl Brabenec. Welcome to my profile!
Karl Brabenec's Bio:
The son of Czech refugees, Karl Brabenec grew up believing in America. After becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college, Karl was inspired by his patriotic spirit to serve the public good.
As Supervisor of the Town of Deerpark, Karl has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for the community and saving taxpayer dollars. He has welcomed enterprise and made the town’s government lean and responsible. First elected in 2009, he was reelected overwhelmingly in 2011 and again in 2013.
Karl understands first-hand how New York State puts obstacles in the way of attracting businesses and hiring more workers, especially because his town has to compete with neighboring states with less red tape. He led reforms in Deerpark’s zoning restrictions to improve the business climate there.
Protecting his constituents’ pocketbooks in challenging times has been a top priority for Karl. He aggressively pursued savings for his town’s taxpayers by having an energy audit performed on town facilities and making vendors compete for town business.
Despite New York State’s heavy mandates and costly regulations, Karl’s careful management has allowed Deerpark to put away reserve funds for unanticipated future expenses, and the town has its first long-term financial plan. For three consecutive years, the town’s tax levy has remained stable and under the state mandated 2% tax cap.
To assure that town government remains open and honest, Karl reestablished the town’s ethics committee and dramatically expanded communication with the public through the town’s website, social media, and open-house meetings.
Karl attributes his accomplishments as Supervisor to his faith in enterprise and hard work, and to governing with integrity, guided by “common-sense principles.” Raised in Orange County, he graduated from Minisink Valley High School in 1997. He earned his BA at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, followed by a Master of Public Administration degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
After college, Karl served as an assistant to former Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana. He was appointed to the Deerpark Zoning Board of Appeals and was later elected to the Deerpark Town Council in 2007. He is currently a member of the Advisory Boards for both Orange County Community Development Block Grant Program and the HOME Program to help county residents become homeowners. Karl is the Vice President of the Orange County Association of Towns, Cities, and Villages and has participated in many community organizations over the years.
